October Breakfast

This Month we had two speakers at the October Breakfast

Home-Start has been supporting Suffolk families with young children through difficult circumstances for 20 years this year.

They gave us an insightful look at the level of need in the area and what they were doing to support the families and how the business community and individuals can support them in their work.

Home start explained  “Earlier this year we began our ambassador programme, this was set up for busy people who wish to support us in a networking type role. Our ambassadors use their professional and personal networks to promote the work we do as a charity and inspire new fundraising, helping us to raise our profile and maximise our potential. An ambassadorship is a flexible and varied role designed to be taken on by each individual in a way that suits them and fits around existing commitments. In a nutshell, it’s thinking about Home-Start in Suffolk and looking out for opportunities for us, it could be that you know someone who is retiring who would make a wonderful volunteer and you can make that suggestion, it may be that your employer offers some kind of matched fundraising scheme we could take advantage of or perhaps you know a small business who would love to take up our platinum challenge, the list is endless.

As part of the charities 20th Anniversary celebrations, a new fundraising initiative was launched earlier this year – The Platinum Challenge. Aimed at gaining support from 20 local businesses, the Platinum Challenge invites individuals and organisations to sponsor a year from 1999 to 2019 and pledge to raise a minimum of £1000 over twelve months through fundraising activities which can be themed around the chosen year. So far, nine organisations have pledged their support” For more information visit their website

We then heard from Miles Varten from Varten Consultancy on “the very latest” position on Brexit preparations and the effect it could have on Felixstowe businesses and people.   It was great to hear an analysis of where we are and what to expect in the coming months

Our thanks to Miles Vartan, of Vartan Consultancy, and Eve Goody and Alison Watson from Home-Start for their gripping talks
