Mark Jepson, Mayor of Felixstowe & the Visit Felixstowe Campaign

It was quite a strange feeling being made Mayor of Felixstowe last week virtually! Unfortunately for the time being that is how we are having to communicate and interact. As we start to emerge from the lockdown we will have to remain vigilant, I strongly believe that if we do everything we are asked we should be able to maintain the relaxing of the restrictions which can only be good news for our shops and tourist trade.  I am delighted to support the Visit Felixstowe Campaign, since I became Mayor I have been conducting virtual interviews with some of our High Street Hero’s who managed to remain open during the height of the virus. These are being aired on the Visit Felixstowe Facebook page!
What has been encouraging is they not only kept existing customers but also attracted new ones, I am one of them! Whilst they are not out of the woods it is tantamount to their resolve that they have all adapted their business during this difficult time.
I have no doubt that with the support of the Chamber, working closely with Visit Felixstowe and the Town Council that we will be able to identify some positive actions and responses to support our High Street and tourism over the next few months, hopefully making us all more resilient and in the long term successful.
I will be Chairing a meeting in the next week or so where some of these issues will be discussed.
In closing I would like to thank the shops and industries that have been providing such great support to the vulnerable people of the town and beyond during what has been a truly challenging time.
Mark Jepson,
Mayor of Felixstowe
