Felixstowe Academy

Business Mentoring Programme

Felixstowe School is looking to work more closely with Felixstowe Chamber of Commerce in the new academic year in a number of ways including its Business Mentoring Programme, work experience and .  We are kick starting this programme and we are keen to make contact with members who would like to work with our Sixth Form students who would benefit from having a Mentor.

Mentors will work on a one to one basis with a student to help fill knowledge gaps and seek opportunities to help them grow and excel.  The sessions will be held in school at a time that suits you both and will combine general conversation and resources/activities provided by the school.  Accompany your mentee in a search for self-understanding, encourage them to reflect and seek to guide them into making more informed choices to take responsibility for themselves.

Work Experience
Felixstowe School is always looking to make new links with businesses who would be happy to have students visit them for work experience.  This is an invaluable opportunity for our students and is a requirement in Careers Education.  It is important that as many links and relationships with businesses can be made and built to ensure a valuable and meaningful experience for students but also to look to encourage a future workforce for our businesses both locally and nationally.
Looking ahead to the future work experience possibilities, Felixstowe School is reviewing the way in which its work experience programme works and hopes to establish a programme which maximises the benefits of work experience for both students and employers.  In the past the Year 10 work experience has always taken place in a one week block towards the end of May.  The plan is to possibly move away from this and instead be flexible and put more emphasis on when it would suit the employer for our students to work with them.  In theory this means that a student between Year 10 (15 years old) and Year 13 (18 years old) could come to you for work experience anytime from after the October half term (26-30 October 2020) to July, on completion of all paperwork.
We are reaching out to you to make new links and to ask for your thoughts with regards to our past model and the proposed model so we can be sure that we are working towards the best possible solution for all parties involved.
If you are interested in working with the school as part of its work experience programme or in sharing your thoughts on the best approach to work experience in general please contact Emma Cobain, CEIAG Coordinator (Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance) at Felixstowe School via email ecobain@fxa.org.uk or on 01394 288228.
Encounters with Employers and Employees
To gain a full insight into the world of work, visits from employers or employees are invaluable.  This gives students an idea of what job roles are out there, progression routes and what skills are valued in the workplace.
If you are interested in offering to speak to our students in assemblies or in smaller groups please contact Emma Cobain, CEIAG Coordinator (Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance) at Felixstowe School via email ecobain@fxa.org.uk or on 01394 288228.
