Felixstowe Peninsula’s summer plans revealed

Details of an ambitious programme of summer fun with a series of events and other exciting plans aimed at attracting thousands of new visitors to Felixstowe were revealed at a special gathering in the Town Hall on Wednesday afternoon.

Helen Greengrass, of Felixstowe Forward, told the town’s tourist chiefs, business leaders and councillors that highlights this summer include the Seaside Gardens, Heritage Story and the town centre, as well as a host of other interesting events.

These include a special Easter Market in Hamilton Road, selling foods and other products from all over Europe (April 14 to 17), the Suffolk Armed Forces Weekend (June 24-25) and the town’s first Multi-cultural Festival on August 12. Among the other events are the Book Festival, the Carnival and Art on the Prom, as well as the Landguard Kite Festival, a Fireworks Spectacular and the Christmas Craft Market.

In fact, Felixstowe will be offering more than 400 different events, earning some £55 million.

Helen also pointed out that Felixstowe Forward had spent a lot of time branding Felixstowe as a special place to visit for “great days by the sea” through a concerted social media campaign and printing 42,000 leaflets to market the town across Suffolk, Essex and Norfolk. Special “bedroom browsers” were also produced to tell people staying in the local hotels and B&Bs what they could do and where they could go. Shops and other businesses and organisations that want to help promote the town are welcome to use the “Visit Felixstowe”materials.
