Dora Brown

Dora Brown is a large team of volunteers who transform homes, free-of-charge, for families living in crisis; homes which have broken down because of furniture + hygiene poverty + domestic neglect

We make-over homes with clearance, deep cleaning, organising + self-care systems like bathing, laundry + cleaning. With donations + our corporate partners we provide furniture, carpets, curtains, bedding, hygiene products + whatever necessities are needed. We also gift toys, cushions, fruit bowls + other nice homely things that improve family wellbeing. We support families to maintain their homes themselves + feel the benefits of a nurturing home

Dora Brown forms part of social care provision; social workers, health visitors + other agency practitioners refer families to us. Dora Brown provides fast relief to families where the home is the major factor affecting quality of life. We prioritise families where Child Protection Plans hinge on the state of the home, hygiene + self care

Dora Brown works with families suffering severe hardship for any reason. We work with families of any size, in any type of home. We treat every family + home with respect, sensitivity + confidentiality. We never judge. No matter how bad people feel their home or situation is, we’re here to help. We roll up our sleeves + get stuck in

Dora Brown’s pilot hub is in Ipswich, also serving Woodbridge, Felixstowe + rural surrounds. Dora works in family homes on Wednesdays + Fridays, 9-2. Our work is only made possible through our growing teams of banging volunteers; our fantastic corporate sponsors + partners; generous charitable grants + your donations of stuff + money. We’re grateful for any help to keep Dora scrubbing hard.

Felixstowe Fairtrade

Felixstowe Fairtrade Forum is a not-for-profit voluntary group committed to promoting Fairtrade in Felixstowe. Fairtrade ensures that farmers in developing countries get a fair price. The forum encourages people to buy Fairtrade products.

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. Buying Fairtrade products ensures that they receive a fair price for their goods – and there is also a ‘social premium’ which goes towards providing community facilities, such as clean drinking water. Producers decide on projects democratically.

Paying sustainable prices addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which can discriminate against the poorest, weakest producers.

Level Two

The Felixstowe Youth Development Group was established in 1993 by a number of concerned parents and residents who recognized the need for better facilities and support for young people in Felixstowe.  ‘The Zone’ was initially set up down the seafront as a place for young people to socialize.

Following a Community Fund grant from the Lottery, Level Two Youth Project was created in 2001 to provide facilities and support for young people in Felixstowe & surrounding villages.  Our premises were located above Tesco in the town centre, where we remained for 9 years.  From September 2010 our lease expired and we moved our offices temporarily to Walton House and our youth club provision was run from the Community Education Centre (within the grounds of Orwell High School/Maidstone campus).  In March 2013 we were able to re-locate to our original premises above Tesco in the town centre and this is now our Youth Hub.  In November 2015 we were successful in obtaining a Big Lottery grant, to assist with a new Topic Room, some detached and outreach work and also some mentoring.
