It’s been a busy week for us at the Chamber, with our hugely successful Soirée at The Wine Boutique on 25th April, but we always have time to listen to our Committee members on what motivates them to take part and help to push the Chamber’s activities forward.
This week, we hear from Magnus Group’s Paul Reeves, Logistics and Transport representative on the Committee…
Why have you joined Felixstowe Chamber of Commerce?
When I first expressed an interest in getting involved with the Felixstowe Chamber, I was really pleasantly surprised by how open and welcoming everybody was.
I wanted to become involved, as I can see what it is that the Chamber is trying to do. Through our programme of events and activities, the Chamber’s profile is on the up, with a real focus on delivering for the people and businesses of Felixstowe.
What would you suggest as the key strengths of the Chamber?
The Chamber is made up of a diverse, knowledgeable group of individuals, who are collectively passionate about Felixstowe.
It is diverse in it’s make-up, but refreshingly inclusive in its approach. There is a strong determination to move the Chamber forward and to help in any way possible in Felixstowe’s growth.
Describe yourself in three words.
Resilient. Determined. Calm.
Aside from the Chamber, what other interests do you have?
I have had a lifelong interest in sport. I used to play a lot, but now I mostly spectate! I am a keen Ipswich Town supporter, so am obviously very excited by how well they are doing this season.
I have previously been on the youth and adult committees at Felixstowe & Corinthians Cricket Clubs, having had two sons who came through the age groups. I also coached one of the Trimley Red Devils teams for many years, from U8s to U16s, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
My main sporting activity these days is climbing, especially at Avid Climbing in Ipswich, although I’m still very much a novice and need to work on my technique!
I am also a new Trustee and volunteer at a local charity, Suffolk Refugee Support, which I am still finding my feet with, but I can already see that there are some amazing people there doing some amazing things, in really challenging times.
What do you like most about Felixstowe?
I have many happy memories as a child in the family beach hut at The Dip in Old Felixstowe and my parents were able to make new memories for their grandchildren thanks to the wonderful beaches and activities that Felixstowe has to offer.
You really can’t beat simple family time on Felixstowe beaches! In fact, raising a family in Felixstowe was great, with so many activities to do and places to go – I would highly recommend it!
Now my sons (much older) are loving the developments at Beach Street and the Boardwalk Bar on the Pier. I really enjoy walking along the prom to blow the cobwebs away or heading to Landguard Nature Reserve on the way to the Viewing Point to see the ships alongside and the working port.
After more years in the shipping industry than I care to think about…..I still get a real buzz out of it!
